On behalf of the Communications Team we want to wish you a fun, safe summer filled with amazing memories to treasure. Whether you’re staying local or traveling, set a summer bucket list (even if there’s only 1 item on it) and like Nike just do it!
Enjoy the time off but also make sure to make time for reading and brushing up on skills for the upcoming school year. Check your emails for recommended grade reading lists and keep a lookout for back to school newsletters in early August.
We wish the best to those moving on to new schools and new chapters and look forward to seeing returning and new faces in August. Happy Summer!

Juneteenth (short for “June Nineteenth”) marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, TX in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. The troops’ arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth honors the end to slavery in the United States. On June 17, 2021, it officially became a federal holiday. |

Gallery 111: 1st Grade Ballroom Dance Performance |
|
Gallery 111’s mission is to provide arts exposure and education in core subject areas. Due to the rigorous nature of the academic structure at Skinner, arts programming reinforces student learning in a creative way. It is our belief that the arts supplement heighten and expand our school curriculum. In addition to benefiting academics, we also see the arts as a tool to promote higher order and abstract thinking skills in students. The arts appeal to the whole child and provide opportunities to embrace our cultural differences. We encourage students to become well-rounded individuals. The arts also instill a lifelong love of learning.
Skinner West's 1st grade Superstars put on a fantastic ballroom dance performance including the merengue (Ms. Eck's class), charleston (Ms. Martin's class), waltz (Ms. Salameda's class) and tango (Ms. Sittner's class).

6th Grade Field Trip to Six Flags |
|
The 6th grade classes took a fun filled field trip to Six Flags this week. Organized by Superstar Elon R., the kids had a great time riding rides and making memories! |

Mrs. Clark Cuts Ribbon on Book Vending Machine |
|
Mrs. Clark came to cut the ribbon on the new book vending machine that honors her 28 years of service at our school. The kids were so happy to see her and they even got a free book! |

Shout out to Sydney D., Atessa D., Raina D., and Maddie M. who organized a recycling program that will be in place at Skinner next school year! Sydney D. created a committee and the team presented information to their peers. |

Skinner Superstar: Giorgio V. |
Giorgio participated in the Cori’s Triathlon in Oakbrook Terrace on June 4, 2022. He swam 25 yards, ran 0.75 miles and biked for 1.75 miles. He earned 7th place during his first very triathlon, completing the race in 18:37 minutes.

The annual children’s drawing contest, “This Is My Mexico” is organized by the Institute for the Mexicans Abroad. This year’s theme is the biodiversity of Mexico.
